Product of the month | June 2026
At SPECIFIC POLYMERS, we develop advanced phthalonitrile-based building blocks and formulations designed to support next-generation high-temperature thermoset materials.
This month, we highlight SP-7-003, a phthalonitrile-functional aromatic building block designed for the development of high-performance phthalonitrile thermosetting systems. Its chemical structure, combining aromatic segments with aliphatic bridging moieties, enables the development of phthalonitrile networks associating excellent thermal resistance with improved flexibility after curing.
Phthalonitrile (PHTH) resins are attracting growing interest in applications requiring exceptional thermal stability, flame resistance, and long-term durability under harsh operating conditions. Thanks to their highly aromatic structure and crosslinked network architecture, these materials can achieve extremely high glass transition temperatures (>300°C). These unique properties make PHTH systems particularly relevant for demanding environments such as aerospace, space, defense, electronics, and high-temperature composite applications.
SP-7-003 belongs to our portfolio of phthalonitrile-based synthesis building blocks developed to help academic and industrial researchers design and tailor their own PHTH formulations and networks. Such building blocks can be used to explore curing strategies, optimize processability, tune crosslink density, or investigate the structure–property relationships governing high-temperature thermosets.
Beyond individual synthesis intermediates and monomers, SPECIFIC POLYMERS also develops ready-to-use phthalonitrile resin formulations designed for specific processing routes and application constraints. Our developments include systems optimized for processes such as infusion, RTM, or prepreg manufacturing, as well as customized formulation programs targeting specific thermal, rheological, or mechanical requirements.
Through this combined approach, from molecular building blocks to formulated systems and tailor-made R&D developments, SPECIFIC POLYMERS supports researchers and industrial innovators working on the next generation of ultra-high-performance thermoset materials.
