Product of the month | December 2025

SP-68-005_B5 (Bis(allyl)isosorbide, 50% biobased, CAS 6338-34-7) is a bio-based difunctional monomer derived from isosorbide, a starch-based renewable platform chemical widely regarded as one of the most promising building blocks for sustainable materials. Its two allylic carbon–carbon double bonds provide high reactivity toward photopolymerization and thiol-ene click chemistry, enabling the design of versatile UV-curable or step-growth polymer networks.
The rigid bicyclic architecture of the isosorbide core contributes to enhanced thermal stability and mechanical performance, while the allyl functionalities make this molecule a valuable intermediate for the synthesis of bisphenol-free epoxy precursors or cyclocarbonate derivatives relevant to Non-Isocyanate Polyurethane (NIPU) systems.

SP-68-005_B5 is therefore an attractive building block for a wide range of R&D applications, including pressure-sensitive adhesives (PSA), functional and protective coatings, bio-based thermosets, and advanced resin formulations targeting improved sustainability without compromising performance. Recent scientific studies have highlighted the strong potential of allyl-functionalized isosorbide derivatives for high-performance coatings, UV-curable materials, and environmentally friendly polymer networks, reinforcing the relevance of this molecule for next-generation material development.
