SPECIFIC POLYMERS is an SME partner providing expertise in organic, polymer and materials chemistry to multi-disciplinary consortia. Through our involvement in the setting up of project proposals answering calls for tenders, we want to actively participate in research and innovation actions defined by French or European research funding agencies.
For more than 17 years, SPECIFIC POLYMERS has been involved in collaborative european research projects at both National (ANR, FUI, FEDER, etc.) and European level (FP6, FP7, H2020 – BBI-JU, CLEANSKY, etc.). The involvement of the company has grown over time. Depending on the project, our role can be as either simple participant, task-leader or WP-leader. Our team can also be involved in the setting up of a project as technical manager. In the future, and for the most strategic projects, we are willing to increase our involvement and participate more actively in consortium building, project definition and project set-up. We are convinced that our transversal skills and competencies in material innovation can add value to many projects.
« We are convinced that working with partners having different scientific backgrounds or expertise is an absolute prerequisite to meeting tomorrow’s key challenges. »
Within this framework, SPECIFIC POLYMERS wishes to further integrate its large network of partners, suppliers and customers. We have interests in RIA and IA projects as our activity extends through pure R&D activity and low TRL to support toward scaling-up and the first industrialization steps of the most promising products. Indeed, the overall objective is most often to bring innovations coming from academic research (TRL 1-4) to an industrial reality (TRL 4-7). This objective is in total agreement with our strategic positioning, i.e. ‘to fill the gap between academic and industrial researchers to develop tomorrow’s materials’. These projects present opportunities for us to go further in our strategic research subjects, such as high-performance batteries, sustainable materials or high-performance composites and coatings. In such projects, SPECIFIC POLYMERS always keeps an eye on European research project calls in order to offer its services to the most relevant projects in relation to our fields of expertise.
Partners’ differing points of view, constraints and objectives encourage a healthy debate within the consortia and push us to propose very innovative and industrially reliable scientific solutions. Our chemical design of polymers and materials relies on this complementarity between partners.

Our commitment to any collaborative project is driven by its consistency with our main research areas, i.e. (i) high-performance materials, (ii) the environment, (iii) energy and (iv) biomedical applications.
Public funding presents great opportunities for SPECIFIC POLYMERS to finance part of its Research & Development activities. Indeed, the collaborative projects we are targeting at European, National and Regional levels allow us to build and significantly enlarge our network of customers, partners and suppliers. Each project is an opportunity to demonstrate our relevance in the considered application fields. Furthermore, such National and European research projects usually include partners throughout the value chain which enables us to bring our innovation to high TRL and finally to the market.
