SPECIFIC POLYMERS offers its customers R&D services to design tailor-made materials and coating formulations. Our expertise in polymer and material chemistry enables us to design, formulate, characterize and supply the best resin formulations. In this way, we help our customers to validate their proofs of concept in their own applications.
Our researchers have strong skills in the preparation of organic or hybrid coatings based on thermosetting chemistries such as epoxy-amine, carbonate-amine, isocyanate-alcohol, acrylates-peroxides, acrylate-UV, etc. Depending on the field of application and targeted properties, we can develop solvent-based or waterborne formulations. In all cases, our approach is based on a precise understanding of structure-properties-performance relationships, enabling us to adjust the formulation according to process specifications (viscosity, pot-life, gel-time, etc.) and expected thermomechanical and surface properties.

Even if the target markets concern high value-added materials and coatings, SP attaches great importance to the industrial viability of the technologies developed. Thus, our formulations developments can be based either on industrials products or on in-house (macro)molecules, depending on level of maturity targeted . Thanks to our large network of industrial suppliers, we have access to a very wide range of precursors, allowing us to offer build-to-specification materials while maintaining an industrial approach.
Our research is mainly focused on high-performance thermosetting materials, bio-based resins, and multifunctional coatings with diverse properties. Thanks to our knowledge of multifunctional (macro)molecules, we can add specific surface properties to our custom-designed coatings, such as hydrophobicity, oleophobicity, hydrophilicity, electrical conductivity, anticorrosive properties or self-healing features. We can develop formulations for thermal curing but also UV-curable coatings (radical or cationic photopolymerization).
