Karl Fischer

Karl Fischer coulometric titration is a highly sensitive analytical technique used to specifically determine water content in materials, down to very low concentrations in the ppm range.

Water content can have a major impact on the quality, stability, processing and performance of a material. Accurate moisture determination is therefore particularly important for anhydrous products and materials that are sensitive to humidity.

At SPECIFIC POLYMERS, water content can be measured using a TitroLine® 7500 KF trace coulometric Karl Fischer system from SI Analytics.

Karl Fischer coulometric titration can notably be used to:

  • accurately quantify very low water contents, down to the ppm range;
  • control raw materials, anhydrous products and moisture-sensitive compounds;
  • compare different batches and support quality and conformity assessments;
  • investigate the influence of moisture on material properties and stability;
  • complement information obtained from other analytical techniques such as TGA, DSC, NMR, FTIR and SEC.

This analytical capability strengthens our global approach to the characterization of polymers, materials and chemical products, by providing specific and highly sensitive information on their water content.
