PDMS-block-PEG

Product of the month | April 2023

Poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS) and Poly(ethyleneglycol) (PEG) are commonly known as non-toxic and biocompatible polymers. Based on the interactions with water, these two polymers exhibit opposite properties: hydrophobicity for PDMS and hydrophilicity for PEG. By chemically linking these two polymers, the resulting block copolymers are widely used in medical devices such as microfluidic systems and bioengineering devices (e.g. biosensing, cell studies, analytical separations…).1,2,3 In these biomedical applications, the PEG moiety is used to prevent protein adsorption or drug absorption on PDMS surface. SPECIFIC POLYMERS offers the reference SP-8P-3-001, a PDMS-block-PEG copolymer with chains of 1000g/mol and 500g/mol respectively, that can be used as surfactant additive in biomedical devices.
