Poly(ethylene glycol), α,ω-bis(amine)

Product of the month | August 2026

This month, our Product of the Month focuses on a versatile PEG-based bifunctional polymer designed for advanced material development.

Poly(ethylene glycol), α,ω-bis(amine), also known as PEG diamine, combines a flexible, hydrophilic PEG backbone with two reactive primary amine end groups.

The PEG chain can improve hydrophilicity, flexibility and compatibility with aqueous environments, while acting as a soft spacer between molecular or material components.

Its terminal amines can react with various functionalities, including epoxides, isocyanates, activated esters and aldehydes. They enable the PEG chain to be incorporated into polymer networks, attached to surfaces or used for further functionalization.

Thanks to its α,ω-bifunctionality, NH₂–PEG–NH₂ can act as a flexible crosslinker, chain extender or molecular bridge. Its molecular weight also makes it possible to adjust the distance and flexibility between connected components.

Recent studies illustrate the interest of PEG diamines in hydrogels, flexible electronics, responsive materials and surface functionalization.
