Preparing the Future Growth of SPECIFIC POLYMERS: Facility Expansion and Digital Transformation

DATE

July 2026

SPECIFIC POLYMERS is entering a new phase of development. Over the past years, the company has continued to strengthen its positioning as an innovative player in specialty polymers and advanced materials, supporting R&D projects from early-stage development to more mature technological solutions.

To prepare for the next steps in its growth, SPECIFIC POLYMERS is currently working on two major strategic projects:

New Building

The expansion of its facilities

Digital Transformation

The continued digital transformation

These two initiatives are deeply complementary. On one hand, the extension of our building will increase our research and production capacities, with new laboratories and additional equipment to support future R&D projects. On the other hand, digitalization is helping us structure data, optimize processes, improve traceability, and build a more efficient and scalable organization.

Together, these projects reflect the same ambition: to prepare SPECIFIC POLYMERS for the future, while continuing to provide high-quality technical support, innovative materials, and reliable services to our customers and partners.

Expanding Our Facilities to Support Future Growth

As part of its long-term development strategy, SPECIFIC POLYMERS has launched a major 5M€ self-funded extension project to reinforce its technical capabilities and support the company’s transition from laboratory innovation toward more mature development stages.

Coordinated internally by Elsa BERTHAUT, with the support of David DEWAELE, this strategic project is directly aligned with the company’s ambition to strengthen the maturity of its processes, support the industrialization pathway of its technologies, and respond to the growing needs of customers looking for innovative polymer materials, formulations, and R&D services.

The construction work began in late 2025, and the new building is already taking shape. Several key milestones have now been completed. The structural works are finished, as is the installation of the external joinery, including doors and windows.

The technical studies have also been finalized. The utilities study will enable installation work to begin from the end of August, while the airflow study is paving the way for an increase in our research and production capacities, notably through the installation of additional fume hoods and the creation of four new laboratories.

On site, the partitioning phase is currently underway, with plasterboard panels being installed. This stage is expected to be completed by the end of July. In parallel, we have started investing in new equipment and are continuing supplier consultations to prepare the next phases of the project.

New Building

The laboratory fit-out is scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2027, with the objective of making the new facilities operational in the second quarter of 2027.

This extension marks an important new step in the development of our capabilities to support R&D projects. By expanding our infrastructure, SPECIFIC POLYMERS is preparing to increase its capacity to design, synthesize, formulate, characterize, and scale innovative materials, while maintaining the flexibility and technical expertise that are central to our identity. In particular, our new kilo-lab represents a significant expertise milestone for SPECIFIC POLYMERS, further strengthening the transition from lab-scale to pilot-scale transfer. This capability will allow us to raise the TRL (Technology Readiness Level) of our innovative technologies, with the ultimate goal of delivering process-ready solutions that can be seamlessly industrialized with our chemical partners.

Digital Transformation at SPECIFIC POLYMERS: Building a Smarter and More Efficient Organization

Over the past few years, SPECIFIC POLYMERS has been actively strengthening its digital transformation. For an innovative company operating in the field of specialty polymers and advanced materials, digitalization is not only a matter of modernizing tools. It is a strategic lever to improve efficiency, structure knowledge, enhance data management, support growth, and better serve customers and partners.

In an R&D-driven environment, information is generated continuously: technical data, product specifications, analytical results, formulation knowledge, customer requests, project follow-up, quality information, and commercial data. Being able to capture, structure, connect, and use this information efficiently is essential to accelerate innovation and improve decision-making.

Our Digital Transformation Journey So Far

A major milestone in this digital journey was the launch of SPECIFIC POLYMERS’ new website in 2021. This new platform was designed to increase the company’s visibility, both for its innovative products and its R&D services. It also became an important communication channel to share company news, project updates, technical developments, and innovations.

The website includes a dedicated blog section where newsletter articles are published every month:

The website redesign was also accompanied by the implementation of a Product Finder:

This tool allows visitors to identify innovative products more easily, either by chemical nature, by properties, or by fields of application. It provides a more intuitive way to explore SPECIFIC POLYMERS’ portfolio and to connect technical needs with relevant materials.

However, the Product Finder is only the visible part of a broader digital system. Behind it, SPECIFIC POLYMERS has developed a fully customized internal application dedicated to referencing synthetic products, centralizing their technical characteristics, and supporting quality follow-up. This internal tool helps structure product knowledge and ensures better traceability across the company’s activities.

Following this first major digital project, SPECIFIC POLYMERS initiated another key transformation: the deployment of an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system. Based on the SIMAX solution, this ERP project aimed to centralize company data and improve the management of internal processes.

For an innovative SME, an ERP represents a major step forward. It helps connect different departments, harmonize workflows, reduce manual data handling, improve traceability, and provide reliable indicators for management. It also supports more precise monitoring of business activities, from sales and purchasing to production, project follow-up, quality, and financial data.

After approximately 18 months of work and development, both to adapt the tool to SPECIFIC POLYMERS’ activities and to align internal processes with the system, the ERP was deployed in November 2024. Today, company data is centralized within this tool, helping the teams gain efficiency, improve operational follow-up, and manage the company with more accurate, data-driven indicators.

This ERP deployment also prepares the company for future growth. By structuring information and processes, it provides a solid foundation to support the development of new activities, reinforce internal organization, and frame future operating methods.

Our Ambitions and Objectives for Tomorrow

As part of its continuous improvement approach, and with the clear ambition not to miss the digital and AI transition, SPECIFIC POLYMERS has also formalized an internal position dedicated to the company’s digitalization. This role is currently led by Mathilde ORSELLY, with the objective of supporting digital transformation across the organization and identifying new opportunities to optimize internal operations.

Looking ahead, several major areas of development have been identified.

Development

Through all these initiatives, SPECIFIC POLYMERS confirms its commitment to digital transformation, digital innovation, and optimized information system management. These developments support performance, data valorization, process modernization, and long-term growth.

Digitalization is now a key driver across all areas of the company, from R&D and production to quality, sales, marketing, and management. For SPECIFIC POLYMERS, it is not only a transformation of tools, but also a transformation of the way knowledge is structured, shared, and used to support innovation.

Two Strategic Projects Serving the Same Ambition

The facility expansion and the digital transformation of SPECIFIC POLYMERS are two key pillars of the company’s future development. They address different dimensions of growth, but they share the same purpose: strengthening our ability to innovate, structure our activities, and support increasingly ambitious R&D projects.

By investing in new laboratories, additional equipment, digital tools, data management, ERP systems, and future AI-supported processes, SPECIFIC POLYMERS is preparing the next stage of its development: pushing the maturity of our most promising technologies further, by bridging the ‘valley of death’ of innovation between TRL 4 and TRL 9.

These transformations will help us increase capacity, improve efficiency, reinforce traceability, and support the modernization of our organization. Above all, they will allow us to continue accompanying customers and partners with the scientific expertise, flexibility, and innovation-driven mindset that define SPECIFIC POLYMERS.
