REFORM (pRinted Electronics FOR the circular econoMy) sets out to address the environmental and sustainability challenges around conventional surface mounted and embedded functional electronics. The project aims to accelerate and guide the development of a new European green functional electronics supply chain. It seeks to use ecodesign principles to ensure that functional electronics can be produced to meet multiple application requirements for technological performance and compliance, while also meeting societal and environmental needs for sustainability.
Create awareness and access to the critical building blocks that enable rapid adoption of sustainable flexible, printed electronics.
Create a suite of sustainable fully-organic conductive inks for use in printed flexible electronics.
Develop sustainable, flexible substrates for printed green functional electronics.
Create bio-based debondable adhesives to separate electronic components on demand for recycling.
Integrate developed components into new green sensors and technology concepts that enable circularity.
Develop and validate plastic and metal recovery processes enabling circularity.
Create a complete testing and verification workflow and support standard development.
Develop applied industrial sensor prototypes that enable mass-scalable green electronics.

REFORM project aims to tackle and stress out the development of sustainable adhesives for microelectronics not only by using biobased components but also by considering its end-of life through the introduction of reversible and recyclable properties.
In these regards, SPECIFIC POLYMERS will rely on its expertise gathered over the last decade towards the development of innovative vitrimers, biobased building-blocks and build-to-spec formulations.
First, a range of bisphenol-free biobased epoxies with advanced purity (ionic content < 30 ppm) will be targeted to meet the requirements of microelectronics. A meticulous combination of each ingredient such as difunctional, reactive diluents, flexibilizers or impact modifiers will allow reaching the desired viscosity and thermomechanical performances.
Finally, SPECIFIC POLYMERS will address the adhesives’ end-of life by implementing vitrimer technology to repair, reprocess or even recycle the adhesive. This innovation in the microelectronic sector will pave the way towards conductive adhesives with low environmental impact.
