SPECIFIC POLYMERS’ Involvement in Collaborative Projects
SPECIFIC POLYMERS actively engages in national and European collaborative projects to advance its R&D in strategic sectors such as Energy, Environment, and High-performance Materials and Coatings. Our expertise in custom synthesis of specialized monomers, polymers and resins along with our capacities in physico-chemical and thermos-mechanical analysis and material modelling, make SPECIFIC POLYMERS a valuable SME partner in these consortia.
Engaging in these collaborative projects allows SPECIFIC POLYMERS to align with European roadmaps, bridge the gap between research and industry for new material technologies, and advance the maturity of emerging innovations. Over the past 22 years, the company has participated in more than 25 collaborative projects and have been involved in the setup of more than 100 proposals through a variety of initiative at both National (ANR, ANR, FUI- IDEMO, FEDER, etc.) and European level (H2020, HORIZON EUROPE, CBE, CLEAN AVIATION, etc.), contributing as a participant, task leader, work package leader, or technical manager.

In the environmental sector, SPECIFIC POLYMERS focus on creating sustainable, non-toxic and/or bio-based alternatives to traditional thermoset components and improving material end-of-life processes through vitrimer approaches, enhancing reprocessability and recyclability.

SPECIFIC POLYMERS’ expertise: Bio-based and Bisphenol-free resins and coatings – vitrimer technology (recyclability/repairability); multifunctional coatings: anti-contamination, anti-erosion, and anti-corrosion. Physicochemical, rheological, and thermo-mechanical characterizations. Material modeling.
Horizon Europe – HORIZON-CL4-INDUSTRY-2025-01-MATERIALS-43 (IA)
SPECIFIC POLYMERS’ expertise: Bio-based and multifunctional coatings and adhesives; multifunctional coatings (anti-contamination, anti-erosion/debonding); phthalonitrile resin (extended lifespan, resistance to harsh environments). Physicochemical, rheological, and thermo-mechanical characterizations. Material modeling.
CBE – HORIZON-JU-CBE-2025-IA-05 SSbD bio-based (co)polymers unlocking new market applications (IA)
SPECIFIC POLYMERS’ expertise: Custom design of biobased monomers and (co)polymers to meet diverse application needs. Expertise in optimizing synthetic pathways to control composition, architecture, and molecular weight of (co)polymers. Mastery in various polymerization techniques. Physicochemical characterizations.
CBE – HORIZON-JU-CBE-2025-RIA-02 Biodegradable, (multi-functional) delivery systems for fertilizing products to reduce microplastics pollution & promote soil health (RIA)
SPECIFIC POLYMERS’ expertise: Development of biobased/biodegradable polymers mainly based on ring-opening polymerization and polycondensation. Experience in alternatives to PET and development of high specificity polymers. Physicochemical characterizations.

SPECIFIC POLYMERS’s work on high-performance materials includes developing thermoset resins capable of withstanding high temperatures, aiming to produce lightweight composites for various high-demanding sectors. We also develop multifunctional coatings that provide properties like electronic conductivity, hydrophobicity and/or oleophobicity, anti-corrosion, anti-erosion and/or self-healing capabilities.

SPECIFIC POLYMERS’ expertise: Multifunctional coatings and repair – reduction of maintenance operations; anti-contamination, anti-erosion. The TRL level of this call for projects is relatively high compared to SP’s activity on this topic, but SP can contribute through research actions.
Horizon Europe – HORIZON-CL4-INDUSTRY-2025-01-MATERIALS-51 (IA)
SPECIFIC POLYMERS’ expertise: Alternatives to PFAS in materials and coatings. Innovation potential depending on subjects. The TRL level of this call for projects is relatively high compared to SP’s activity on this topic, but SP can contribute through research actions.
High-Performance Composites
European Defense Fund – EDF-2025-DA-ENERENV-APEM
SPECIFIC POLYMERS’ expertise: Synthesis and custom formulation of Phthalonitrile high performance resins, In-depth understanding of Structure–Properties–Performance relationship, through analytical and material modelling approaches, Scale up support.
SPECIFIC POLYMERS is also involved in the development of high-performance resins for composites, particularly for high-temperature applications. In that sense, we are evaluating various initiatives such as EIC Pathfinder Open or Challenge, CLEAN AVIATION, EUROSTARS, EDF, and I-DEMO Régionalisé. In this field, we are convinced that our high performance resins can be of interest in various sectors and we are seeking for new partners interested in being involved in the development and deployment of high-temperature resins and composites, mainly phthalonitrile-based, in sectors like aerospace, defense, competitive automotive, and electronics.
