STYPEG

STYPEG

Product of the month | October 2025

This month, SPECIFIC POLYMERS highlights STYPEG (SP-53-001) — a styrene-terminated poly(ethylene glycol) designed as a versatile macromonomer for the development of advanced and functional polymers.

Combining the reactivity of styrenic end groups with the flexibility and hydrophilicity of poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG), STYPEG offers a unique balance between organic compatibility and aqueous affinity. This dual nature makes it a key building block for the design of amphiphilic block copolymers, functional hydrogels, and ion-conducting polymer networks. From a chemical perspective, STYPEG can readily undergo radical polymerization or copolymerization, while the PEG segment provides chain mobility, solubility in polar media, and the potential for ionic conduction or selective interactions with metal ions.

In recent research, styrene-PEG derivatives have been investigated for ion-conducting electrolytes, recyclable palladium–polymer catalysts, semiconductor cleaning polymers, and fluorescent copolymers for Zn(II) detection and pH sensing.

Available in 5 g, 10 g, and 25 g batches, STYPEG (SP-53-001) supports R&D activities and proof-of-concept developments in fields such as energy, catalysis, sensing, and microelectronics.
