Vanillin Benzaldehyde

Product of the month | September 2021

SP-3-00-006 is a bis-aldehyde monomer synthesized from vanillin alcohol that can be a sustainable precursor extracted from lignin. Aldehyde moieties can undergo a  variety of chemical reactions with nucleophiles, resulting in both reversible and irreversible bonds. For instance, they can participate in condensation ‘ click’ reactions with nitrogen-containing nucleophiles such as hydrazines or alkoxyamines leading to stable hydrazones or oximes. Also, the condensation of aldehydes with primary amines yields imine derivatives (Schiff bases). This reaction can be of high interest in the implementation of reversible crosslinking in innovative recyclable thermoset materials.
